After three consecutive away fixtures, Celtic FC B marked their return to the Excelsior Stadium with victory, picking up three points against Albion Rovers.

Goals from Rocco Vata and Mackenzie Carse in either half helped the Celts end Rovers' recent run of five wins in a row.

Although the score-line was slender, with the Bhoys running out 2-1 winners, it could have been much more had Celtic converted a number of their chances.

Rovers shot-stopper Ross Connelly produced a number of strong saves to deny the likes of Mackenzie Carse and Bruno Davidson, whilst second half substitute Lewis Dobbie also struck the post.

It was a positive attacking display from the young Hoops side, building from back to front, and midfielder Kyle Ure had an instrumental part to play in that.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, the midfielder said: “It was a good performance. I feel like we deserved to win – we played some nice football throughout the pitch, building up the final third.

“Obviously we need to be more clinical because we have been creating lots of opportunities recently.

‘We just need to start putting them away, but, overall, it’s pleasing to get the result.’

“Going into games like the Premier League International Cup and UEFA Youth League, we are probably not going to get as many chances as we have been creating.

“So it’s just looking forward to that, and making sure we are putting them away and hopefully getting results.”

Although the Hoops could have won the game in more convincing fashion, it also could have went in favour of Albion Rovers.

The away side had the chance to take home a share of the spoils in stoppage time, after winning a spot-kick, but they ultimately couldn’t convert from 12 yards.

Ure admitted that he was a little relieved to see the resulting penalty come off the post, before eventually being cleared to safety.

Following on from Saturday afternoon’s result, the Bhoys aren’t back in action until September 14, against West Ham United.

So the midfielder and the entire squad will be aiming to continue building upon the positives of their result and performance at the Excelsior Stadium.

He said: “With Albion Rovers missing the penalty at the end, it is a bit of a relief for us.

'I definitely felt like we deserved to win though, and it’s probably deserved from the work we have been putting in on the training ground and in each game.'

“Obviously we would like to be playing games,” Ure continued. “But we have looked at certain things on the training ground and you can see that we have implemented it today.

“Our build-up was very good at times. It was slick and we were able to work out way through the thirds quickly.”
