BBC Sport report this morning that France defender Kurt Zouma has pleaded guilty to two animal welfare offences in a video which showed him kicking and slapping his cat.

The West Ham man was on trial with his brother Yoan at the Thames Magistrates’ Court. The latter, who plays for Dagenham and Redbridge, admitted to one count of aiding, abetting, counselling or procuring his brother to commit the offence.

Zouma had been fined around €300,000 by his club when the video first surfaced earlier this year, and saw several sponsorship deals cancelled.

The sentencing in the case has been adjourned to June 1. The former Saint-Étienne man pleaded guilty to two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

Sky Sports add that the prosecutor, Hazel Stevens, told the court that the defender could be heard saying  “I swear I’ll kill it, I swear I’ll kill it”, and that the clip seemed to be carried out after the cats were considered repsonsible for damaging a chair.
