Nicolas Kuhn has played 27 domestic games for the Celts and is still to experience a loss, and this win was down to him. Alistair Johnston fully admits he was a shade fortunate in scoring Celtic’s equaliser, but there was nothing lucky about the precise pass he threaded through for Kuhn to net the winner.
With a frustratingly speeding clock hitting the 88th minute, the Canadian cut out both the Ross County midfield and defence with a straight as a die pass directly to his German team-mate who cut inside before calmly tucking the ball away.
From that exact second, the previously speeding clock seemed to go at a snail’s pace with seven minutes added to the 90, but Celtic’s 100 per cent start to the SPFL campaign was maintained.
Kuhn said: “I think we had it a little bit difficult in the first half, we were a little bit too slow with the passing and everything.
“The second half was much better, Ali played me a nice ball through and I just had to finish.
“It was really nice, the support today were unbelievable and I’m just happy that we got the three points in the end.
‘I saw Kyogo but at that moment I thought he’s be offside if I crossed it. So I just decided to go inside and go on my left foot – we tried that a bit in training so I’m happy that I finished it.’
“We had to step up and show that we want to win here, and I think that’s what we did in the second half.
“Also the subs made a big difference with nice passes so we’re happy with the three points.”
The German winger has got off to a flier this season with six goals and eight assists helping to maintain his happy habit of not playing in a losing side, and he puts that down to 100 per cent preparation for the campaign as opposed to coming in cold halfway through last season in January.
He said; “I knew if I had a full pre-season and got going with the team, get the connection with the staff and everyone, then I could make a difference.”
Kuhn added: “In those games we need to be calm and wait for the chances, and that’s what we did. At the end we got the three points, and that’s all that matters.
“Sometimes you have those games where it can be a little bit difficult, but you have to bring them over the line.”
