Nikola Krstovic could soon change clubs, but remain in Serie A.
The Lecce striker, a key figure last season with the Salento club, has found himself in the sights of Roma, who have been eyeing him for some time and appear intent on making a move in these final days of the transfer window.
According to La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, the Giallorossi have already reached a preliminary agreement with the player regarding the duration and salary, a clear sign that the Montenegrin is one of the club’s attacking priorities.
However, one obstacle remains to be overcome: finalizing the deal between the two clubs.
A key point in this negotiation concerns the situation of Artem Dovbyk, currently in the Roma squad but at the center of transfer rumors.
The Ukrainian striker has been targeted by several Premier League clubs, particularly Leeds, who had already expressed interest in Krstovic in June.
Should Dovbyk’s departure materialize, Roma would be ready to accelerate the pursuit of Krstovic, who has made no secret of his preference to remain in Italy.
Lecce’s valuation is between €25 and €30 million, a significant figure that has so far kept most interested clubs at bay.
However, Roma, also spurred by coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s admiration for the Montenegrin striker, appears ready to make concrete moves in this direction.
Other inquiries have been made in recent weeks. In the Bundesliga, Wolfsburg attempted to enter the club, but failed to find fertile ground with the Salento club. In Serie A, Atalanta had also expressed interest in Krstovic after the sale of Mateo Retegui, but ultimately preferred to shift their focus to other targets.
Milan are keeping a low profile, monitoring alternatives such as Rasmus Hojlund and Dusan Vlahovic, thus leaving the field open for Roma.
