FLW looks at the Swansea City players could still exit before the end of August

Key Takeaways

  1. Swansea City may see additional players leave before the transfer window closes, creating room for new signings.
  2. Players like Broome, Pedersen, and Thomas could face uncertainty in their futures at the club.
  3. The potential arrival of new signings could push current players down the pecking order, leading to possible exits.

Swansea City may not have the biggest of squads at the moment, but further players could yet exit prior to the transfer window closing at the end of August.

Towards the end of the window, when Williams has clarity on what his squad looks like, he may opt to send fringe players and youngsters out on loan or could even sanction permanent exit for players who don't feature prominently in his plans.

Swansea are currently looking to bolster their squad prior to the transfer window closing, and a strengthened squad could provide scope for players who are pushed down the pecking order to leave.

It's unlikely that any of Swansea's big names will depart prior to the transfer window closing, so with that in mind, here are three Swansea City players who face an uncertain end of August.

Nathan Broome

Goalkeeper Nathan Broome is yet to make a senior appearance for Swansea since joining from AFC Wimbledon last summer, and with Williams looking to add another goalkeeper to his ranks, it could mean that Broome departs this summer.

Swansea already have Lawrence Vigouroux and Andy Fisher on their books, although the latter is injured, and if the Swans are successful in their pursuit of another shot-stopper, Broome will be pushed down the pecking order even further.

The 22-year-old former Manchester City man has played senior football at League Two level for AFC Wimbledon, and being third or even fourth choice at Swansea at this stage of his career wouldn't be good for his development.

This will likely come down to whether Swansea are successful in their pursuit of another goalkeeper, but if they are, a departure for Broome, whether that be on loan or on a permanent basis, would make sense for both the player and the club.

Kristian Pedersen

Danish international defender Kristian Pedersen joined Swansea last summer, but it's fair to say that his time in south Wales has not gone as planned yet.

He made just five appearances for the Swans last season before joining Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday on loan in January, where he played just four games.

He's been involved in Swansea's matchday squads during the opening weeks of the season, but that's been down to their lack of depth more than anything, and the left-back, who can also play in central defence, will slip down the pecking order now that the Swans are set to sign Nelson Abbey from Olympiacos.

The 30-year-old does have plenty of Championship experience under his belt thanks to his time with Birmingham City, but if Swansea receive an offer for the one-cap Danish international it would be a surprise if they didn't move him on.

According to Capology, Pedersen is Swansea's fourth-highest earner with a weekly wage of £18,000, and the club will want to get his wages off their books.

Josh Thomas

Young striker Josh Thomas made his first-team debut from the bench against Middlesbrough on the opening day, but Swansea could loan him out this summer now that they're set to bring in some attacking reinforcements.

It's been reported that Florian Bianchini will join the club, and the Frenchman is able to play as a striker, which will push Thomas down the pecking order at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Thomas spent some time on loan with Port Vale in League One last season before suffering an injury, and he performed relatively well at Vale Park, scoring three goals and registering two assists in 15 appearances for the Valiants.

The 21-year-old finds himself in a tricky situation where he's too good for Swansea's U21 side, but not quite good enough for the first-team, so an EFL loan move could be the perfect solution for him this summer.
