AC Milan have signed Sweden forward Kosovare Asllani following her high profile departure from Real Madrid at the end of the month.

Asllani has signed a two-year contact with the Rossoneri until 2024 and moves to the sixth different country of her club career, having already played for sides in Sweden, the United States, France, England and Spain over the last 15 years.

The 32-year-old described herself as ‘proud’ to join Milan. She added, “Super excited to move to Italy, Milano and to call AC Milan my new home.”

Asllani was Real Madrid’s first marquee player when the club acquired Spanish side CD Tacon in 2019, before officially rebranding the following summer. But the Swede ended up leaving Madrid under a cloud because of the ‘unhealthy’ environment she claimed exists at the club.

“I think it is a culture in the club, which is unhealthy for players to be in, which I myself have been in, where I have almost been forced to play injured and did not receive help," Asllani said.

"The management team has not listened to the medical team and, in the end, it was a decision that I had to make to have a longer career. It has become a very unhealthy and dangerous environment for players to be in.”

Milan finished third in Serie A in 2021/22 behind Juventus and Roma and will be hoping to mount a bigger challenge in 2022/23.
