Teun Koopmeiners insists he and Juventus ‘can do more’ after a 3-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
The Dutch midfielder played the full 90 minutes in Juventus’ home win against PSV on Tuesday. It was the first Champions League game of the season and the first one in the competition for the Old Lady in nearly two years.
“I’m happy to be here. It’s an extraordinary and special club,” Koopmeiners told Sky Sport Italia, as quoted by Ilbianconero,
The Dutch midfielder joined the Old Lady in a €59m deal from Atalanta at the end of August.
“We are happy with the result, but we could have done more in possession. We had to keep the ball longer because opponents were tired, and attacking was easier.”
Thiago Motta said after the game that Juventus should have done even more against PSV and Koopmeiners agreed with his coach.
“We want to control games at all times, not only for 30 or 60 minutes,” argued the midfielder.
“Sometimes we did well; other times, we didn’t. We did better at Empoli, but we didn’t score. We are happy with the result but must improve in ball possession.”
Koopmeiners is still not fully fit, as he didn’t train with Atalanta for a few weeks before joining Juventus.
“I am feeling well. I worked during the break and I am still not 100% fit because I need more weeks,” said the Dutchman.
“However, it was good to play for 90 minutes. I don’t have muscle problems, I am sure I can work to do even more.”
Juventus’ next competitive match is against Antonio Conte’s Napoli at the Allianz Stadium in Serie A.
The Partenopei have collected nine points so far while the Bianconeri have eight.
