Konrad Laimer wanted to join Bayern Munich in the summer | OneFootball

Speaking to ServusTV, RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer said he “would have liked to take the step in the summer” to Bayern Munich, as he was linked to reunite with former coach Julian Nagelsmann in Bavaria.

“It was very close, but the go from Leipzig did not come,” added the Austrian. “On the one hand, it’s nice because I’m an important player, on the other it is also difficult because you think a lot. But I resigned myself to it, it just goes on.”

Laimer doubled down and said he will rather focus on the now. “One of the best clubs in the world does not knock every summer either. But you can’t change it anyway. I prefer to focus on the here and now. If you worry too much, you lose sight of the most important things,” added Laimer.

The midfielder also spoke on his current injury status, saying: “It takes at least eight to ten weeks. In the first round, it will be difficult to stand in place again. That’s why it’s important that I give myself the time to heal everything and do a good rehab so that I can fully attack again in January.”

This comes after Laimer has had to have an operation after a Syndesmosis ligament tear. Laimer’s last appearance for Leipzig was in their 3-0 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Laimer also spoke about his absence from the Austrian national team and how crucial he was to Ralf Rangnick’s team.

“If your coach publicly praises you so much, it’s nice that your hard work is appreciated. But I can’t buy any of it. Football is so fast paced; I must prove myself anew in every game,” added the 25-year-old. “No one cares anymore what was a few months ago.”

He finally spoke on Austria’s relegation from League A in the Nations League, saying: “I think it’s a pity we rewarded ourselves so little for the achievements. It was a very high-quality group. And we have shown over so many minutes what quality we have in the team. In the end, however, three points count in football. Just playing well and losing is no fun either.”
