Vincent Kompany has suggested Leroy Sané could start against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday in place of the injured Jamal Musiala.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, the Bayern Munich manager discussed Musiala’s injury, as well as the prospect of the former Manchester City winger stepping in.
“It’s a real pity that Jamal isn’t available. We all know how good he is.But at the end of the day he’s a young player and we decided it was better for him to get rest and come back at 100%. Our priority is that he stays fit. We have 100% confidence in all our players, Leroy is one of them.”
Bayern come into the game off the back of a loss to Aston Villa in the Champions League and a draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, but Kompany is only thinking ahead, and is aware of the challenge that Frankfurt will pose.
“No. I’m only thinking about the next game, which is Frankfurt. After every game, whether you win or lose, the next game is the only thing that counts. We can take a lot with us into the next game. That has to be the basis for success in the next game.”
“Playing in Frankfurt is always special. Their team is strong on the counter, with many young players and a lot of talent. The club and the team can still grow. But for us it’s also a normal game. We want to get our points and carry on in the Bundesliga.”
Another player who will not feature in Sunday’s game is Hiroki Itō, who has yet to play for Bayern due to a broken foot suffered in pre-season, but appears to be on the road to recovery.
“Hiroki is doing quite well. He showed his qualities in pre-season. Hopefully he will be ready soon.”
Bayern will be looking to stay top of the table when they face Frankfurt, who sit in second and could go top themselves with a win.
