Koeman enduring record worst season at Barcelona

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman is enduring a record worst season in charge at the Nou Camp.

With 16 competitive games under his belt as Barcelona coach, Koeman has endured the worst start to life on the Camp Nou bench since his compatriot Frank Rijkaard 17 years ago, when he started out with the Blaugrana in 2003/04.

Then, Rijkaard won just eight of his first 16 games. He drew five and lost three of the others. At that time, Barcelona were trying to find some form again with Ronaldinho after a tough time in 2002/03.

In the current Lionel Messi centred era, Koeman's side have won nine of the 16 games played so far, slightly bettering Rijkaard's record.

Koeman, though, has drawn twice and lost on five occasions. Four of those defeats have come in LaLiga Santander, with the latest being handed to them by Juventus in the Champions League, leaving them to progress as runners up in the group and not finish top for the first time in 13 years.

Koeman's unwanted record of five defeats has him as the Barcelona coach with the most losses from his opening 16 games in recent years.
