Denmark’s bold.de and the reliable Kölner Geißblog both report that FC Köln are preparing to ship fullback Rasmus Carstensen back to Denmark on loan. Carstensen recently returned from a loan stint with Lech Poznań. Now, the Dane is headed up north to play in his native country. AGF Aarhus will take the 24-year-old on loan this year. Kicker corroborates the rumor.
Carstensen was an important figure for the cathedral city club for quite some time, mostly due to the two-year-transfer-ban the Bundesliga club had to work its way through. Köln were not permitted to sign new additions last year, but were permitted to pull the purchase options on loan players. Carstensen was one such player.
Shortly after Köln’s last appeal was exhausted, Carstsensen was purchased permanently from KRC Genk for €1.5m in the January 2024 transfer window. The former Danish youth international made 23 Bundesliga appearances for die Geißböckeduring the 2023/24 relegation season.
Carstensen featured thrice for Köln in the 2. Bundesliga last autumn before being loaned out to Poland. He reportedly requested Aarhus specifically as his next destination due to the fact that his current partner plays for the Danish outfit’s women’s team.
One can assume that a purchase option is part of Carstensen’s loan deal, though no reliable reports on such a clause have surfaced yet. Carstensen has been released from Kölner training to complete the move.
