FLW's Wrexham fan pundit has urged his side to go out and sign a striker in January
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Things were going well for Wrexham in their first League One season since 2004/25, but a recent run of one win from their last four league games has provided a harsh reality check for the Welsh side.
That mini-rut has brought with it a whole new issue for Wrexham, as they're now struggling to score, with two scoring blanks in that run, while their only win came by a slender 1-0 scoreline.
A 1-0 defeat against promotion rivals Stockport at the weekend hammered home how much of an issue their lack of goals is becoming, but with January on the horizon, they at least have a chance to try and change things.
Wrexham are one of the most financially-backed clubs in League One, so it won't be a surprise if Phil Parkinson is backed in the transfer market as they bid for a third promotion in as many seasons.
Wrexham aren't particularly short of attacking options, with Paul Mullin, Steven Fletcher, Jack Marriott Ollie Palmer and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson on their books, but with only two of those truly available week in, week out, at the moment, their strike force is looking rather bare.
That's an area our FLW Wrexham fan pundit Liam Grice also identified as being a problem when we asked him where his club need to strengthen in January, and who his ideal signing would be.
He said: "The only position we really need to strengthen in January is striker, our goalscoring department, our defence has been solid so far this season, we've conceded the second-least in the league.
"It's just in recent games we've not been able to put the ball in the back of the net and that is due to Marriott being out with injury, Mullin not being at his best, Palmer not being at his best, Fletcher being out with injury and Bodvarsson only just coming into the squad.
"Bodvarsson is only on a contract until January, so if he does go then we definitely need another striker.
"For me, I think that player is Danilo Orsi at Burton Albion - he's got eight goal involvements so far this season in a side that's been struggling, so he knows how to put the ball in the back of the net even if he's not getting that many chances created for him per game."
While Orsi could provide the solution to Wrexham's issue of putting the ball in the back of the net, in order to have the chance to do so, chances need to be created, and that isn't something Wrexham have been particularly good at this season.
As our fan pundit alludes to, defence has been the bedrock of their success this season, but with the League One promotion race this season so wide open, you sense that defence alone may not be enough to get them over the line.
Those stats back up our fan pundit's claims that a striker is needed, largely due to that high number of big chances missed, which, if it continues, could cost Wrexham dearly over the course of the season.
But with their big chances created also being nowhere near where their league position suggests it should be, it would hint that Wrexham's strikers have at times been starved of service and working off scraps.
That could be the same for Orsi should he come in, but that's something which he's used to doing at Burton Albion this season, so he's proven clinical enough to work with what he's given.
Playing the way Wrexham do, where defence comes first, a player like that could be the difference between winning and losing.
