In the game between AC Milan and Genoa earlier this week, Fikayo Tomori was forced to leave the pitch with a knee injury. Bad news for Stefano Pioli, who will be without the defender for around a month.

The Englishman suffered from knee discomfort early in the game and initially played on after a first check with the medical team. Just a few minutes later, though, he was subbed off and that was indeed the right decision.

He had a keyhole surgery the next day and it has been confirmed by the club that he will be out for around a month. On paper, this means that he should miss the derby against Inter, which will take place on February 6.

In an interview with MilanNews, professor Giuseppe Capua spoke about the possibilities of an early return for Tomori. Capua is an expert on sports trauma, including knee injuries and the following rehabilitation.

“Well, he could make it. If they were to force the time a little, he could make it even if – I repeat – forcing is not always positive. Risks? No, they are relative, let’s talk about the right precautions. The choice will be made by Milan’s medical staff who, in my view, is among the best in Italy; they are very good, very experienced and very capable,” he stated.
