Liverpool signing a new midfielder is ‘not guaranteed’ this summer as the Reds weigh up their options in terms of who they’ll trust to replace Gini Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman completed his move to PSG earlier in the week to bring the curtain down on one of the longest sagas the club has seen over a player’s future.

Indeed, the plan now needs to be to decide whether we dip into the market to get a replacement or whether we promote from within, with the Guardian claiming that Curtis Jones could well benefit if the latter option is taken:

Jones had a good season last year and really began to build the minutes, particularly mid-way through the campaign.

He’s a good young player and deserves a crack at more first-team football – Liverpool just need to make sure they think they are fully covered in terms of choices in the midfield third.

Ultimately, Jurgen Klopp will know whether he thinks he has enough for next season to challenge at the top of the league and whatever he decides will be good enough for us.

Of course, it would be nice to see Jones get more of a chance given he is a local lad.
