Liverpool will be without Diogo Jota for Wednesday night’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

Speaking ahead of the Reds’ trip across Stanley Park, Jürgen Klopp confirmed that the Portuguese forward’s injury-plagued season has taken another disappointing turn.

“Diogo scored the goal [against Fulham] but he felt things a little bit and now it is a little worse so he’s out for two weeks,” Klopp told reporters.

The fixture will also be the German’s final meeting with Everton as Liverpool boss and he revealed how he has became accustomed to its importance.

“It is super important for us, that is clear. With the last few results Everton have pretty much sorted [survival] but for us the situation is clear. Again and again and again, it’s really important like all the other games. We know about the importance,” he added.

“My first derby was in 2016 but when you come here I wouldn’t have said it was my game of the year. I knew it was for the fans but didn’t feel it then. But now I know it and feel it, my understanding developed over the years.”
