Jürgen Klopp has insisted that Liverpool will try to sign a defender after suffering even more injuries at the back.
He also gave the latest on Jöel Matip and Fabinho’s setbacks as he faced the media on Friday.
Here’s what he had to say …
“There is a glimmer of hope that it’s not that serious. We will know more in three/four hours, hopefully.
“Fabinho has no chance for the weekend.”
“I don’t know, but we will try.
“We have tried. There’s nothing to say until something happens so we will see. The situation yesterday didn’t make it easier but it’s still we are trying to do the right things. If it’s possible then we will do it. If not, then not.
“My thoughts didn’t change. My words might have! Same situation. We work on this, if we don’t sleep, we work. We will see. Everything is long-term. It’s about a solution, and that’s what we are working on.
“I am not sure there is an 80million centre-back available at the moment or that teams would sell. We need to find right player and it has to suit our financial situation.”
“He can help us there. It’s clear he has to learn the position a bit but he has the personality and the football we need from that position.”
“Bobby Firmino scores goals. I’m happy for him and he helps us. It shows obviously Bobby Firmino scores goals! It means he will be remembered in the future as one of the top goalscorers for Liverpool, that is nice.”
“We don’t worry about Nat or Rhys. If they play with Van Dijk, Gomez or Matip it is clear who takes responsibility.
“They are both really talented and will have proper careers. We have a lot of faith and trust in the boys. It’s not that every day we give them a book about how to play CB.”
“David Moyes is doing incredible things there. They have incredible goal threat. They are settled now. It has worked out. I am really pleased for David, to be honest.”
