Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has been speaking to the media ahead of their Champions League clash with Rangers on Tuesday.

Here are some of the best quotes.

On early season form

“We realised after Napoli it was a low point and we had to change things quickly.

“We didn’t play Wolves, played Ajax, then didn’t play Chelsea and couldn’t keep up anything from the Ajax win. Then we played Brighton, a really good team and conceded two early goals.

“When you spot a problem and think you have the solution and you expect the solution to be instant and influential, that’s in football never the case.”

On Brighton draw

“Had we won the Brighton game it would have been a different feeling but with similar problems. We have to do pretty much everything better.

“It was only two years ago we were in a similar situation when we lost all our centre-halves but we found a way out by working on it. That’s what we will do this time.”

On Rangers expectations

“Rangers are doing extremely well in generally. We expect they will really fight for a result.

“Rangers are a good football team and well coached. They had an exceptional season in Europe last season. That’s what we have to prepare for. We expect a proper fight, a real fight.”

On confidence within squad

“Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo at the moment is at the top of his confidence? It happens to all of us. Lionel Messi last season pretty much the same. You have to take a step in the right direction and when you’re ready, it’s back (the confidence).

“In individual sports you can fight yourself through it. In team sport, you have to do it together. It can be more complicated.”

On defensive problems

“We have conceded similar goals with teams going through the same gaps. The problem we have is a brave way of defending.

“We need intensity and if we don’t do that then it’s a problem. We have to be more compact. Defending is an art, and it worked for us really well for a long time. But with it not working you realise you have to go back to the basics.”

On Núñez form

“New players come in and want them to shine immediately and that happens from time to time. We are completely calm.

“It’s really important in our situation that he isn’t worrying. The three-game suspension didn’t help him, that’s clear. The team isn’t flying and that doesn’t help a striker.”
