Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has been speaking to the media ahead of their Champions League clash with Rangers on Tuesday.

On early season form

“We realised after Napoli it was a low point and we had to change things quickly.

“We didn’t play Wolves, played Ajax, then didn’t play Chelsea and couldn’t keep up anything from the Ajax win. Then we played Brighton, a really good team and conceded two early goals.

“Had we won the Brighton game it would have been a different feeling but with similar problems. We have to do pretty much everything better.

“Rangers are doing extremely well in generally. We expect they will really fight for a result.

On defensive problems

“We have conceded similar goals with teams going through the same gaps. The problem we have is a brave way of defending.

“We need intensity and if we don’t do that then it’s a problem. We have to be more compact. Defending is an art, and it worked for us really well for a long time. But with it not working you realise you have to go back to the basics.”

On Núñez form

“New players come in and want them to shine immediately and that happens from time to time. We are completely calm.

“It’s really important in our situation that he isn’t worrying. The three-game suspension didn’t help him, that’s clear. The team isn’t flying and that doesn’t help a striker.”
