Jurgen Klopp has discussed Liverpool’s lack of clean sheets but insists he remains unconcerned by their defensive vulnerability in recent fixtures.

The European champions moved to the top of Group E with a 2-1 victory over Genk in the Champions League on Tuesday night, though they once again failed to keep a clean sheet as Mbwana Samatta capitalised on some slack marking to head home a powerful equaliser for Belgian side late in the first-half.

Georginio Wijnaldum’s early opener and a second-half strike from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would ultimately seal Liverpool three points at Anfield, though their inability to keep a clean sheet was once again evident against the Belgian side.

The Reds have kept just three clean sheets in all competitions so far this season, having boasted the best defensive record in the Premier League last year.

Klopp admits their lack of shut-outs is not ideal, but insists he is not overly concerned and says his side are aware of the improvements that need to be made.

“It’s not really a worry, to be honest, but it’s of course not what we want,” the Liverpool boss told BT Sport.

“All the goals we conceded were completely different. They were all different, so it’s not about defending, it’s about being 100 per cent spot on in the situations and we were not.

“We know that and it’s what we have to work on and what we will do.”

Liverpool’s victory coupled with Napoli’s draw at home to Red Bull Salzburg moved the holders to the top of Group E, one point ahead of the Italian side ahead of the meeting between the two in the next round of fixtures.

Victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield on November 27 will secure their passage to the knock-out stage as group winners, though qualification will be assured should Red Bull Salzburg fail to beat Genk in the group’s other tie.
