Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alisson has returned to training at Liverpool, but said this weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace might come too soon for the goalkeeper.

Alisson has missed Liverpool’s last two Premier League fixtures after sustaining a muscular injury during the 1-1 draw at Manchester City on November 25.

The Reds have been handed a boost this week after the Brazil international returned to training, though Klopp suggested Caoimhin Kelleher will continue in goal at Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime. Alexis Mac Allister has been ruled out with a knee problem.

“Allison looks good but I don’t know if he will be good enough for tomorrow, we have to check that with the medical department and Alison himself of course,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“Alexis Mac Allister doesn’t look good, so we have to see day by day. We were hopeful after the game that it’s not serious, we have to wait to see how he shows up here today, I don’t expect him to be ready tomorrow. It’s stop and go, we’ll have to see.

“Alisson is back in training since yesterday.”

Liverpool were dealt a blow this week after Joel Matip was ruled out for an extended period with an ACL injury. The centre-back could miss the remainder of the campaign, with his Liverpool contract set to expire next summer.

Klopp said he believes Liverpool will do the right thing when it comes to a decision on the long-serving defender’s future.

“I’m pretty sure the club will show its class, just how they should do it. I’m pretty sure the club told him that whatever happens. We have to make the decision together with Joel on how it looks after his injury, but it’s a normal thing to do. He deserves all the support from us and he will get it.”
