Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool must perform at their ‘highest level’ to beat Manchester United ahead of a huge top of the table clash between the two sides at Anfield.
Liverpool host their North West rivals this weekend in a hugely anticipated fixture between English football’s most successful clubs, the magnitude of the contest only increased with the two sides currently first and second in the Premier League.
United’s are unbeaten in their past 11 league fixtures and moved top of the division with a 1-0 win at Burnley in midweek, three points clear of Liverpool ahead of Sunday’s high-stakes clash.
Klopp insisted that this weekend’s result will not define the champion’s ability to defend the title, though says his side must be at their very best to secure a positive result against the current league leaders.
“Winning a football game against United is enough in itself, so there is not an add on. We play at home against United and want to win,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.
“They have got the points they deserve, we have ours and the season still has a long way to go.
“We don’t think about other teams or how the table looks at the moment, we just try to win our football games, and for this we need to perform at our highest level because United are good, they always were.”
