Former Tottenham striker Jurgen Klinsmann is adamant Jose Mourinho's team can win the Premier League this season.

The German believes the presence of Mourinho makes Spurs genuine contenders. Indeed, Klinsmann believes the Portuguese manager has convinced himself that Spurs can win the League title and will give everything he can to make it happen for Spurs.

Klinsmann spent the 1994/95 season at Spurs, scoring 21 goals in 30 appearances, including a late winner against Liverpool in the quarter-final of the FA Cup. The German would also score in the semifinal, but Everton won the tie comfortably 4-1. Klinsmann would then depart Spurs after the one year for Bayern Munich.

On today's Spurs team, led by Mourinho, Klinsmann said on ESPN via AS: "Yes (they are contenders) and I think for good reason.

"They dream of finally reaching that point of winning this incredible trophy. I think it is a logical path. In the last two weeks and in the last months we see that something is growing stronger and stronger. Obviously José Mourinho has a strong hand in all this development and is a competitor.

"He will give everything he has to make that dream come true, so these are exciting times for Spurs fans and I keep all my fingers crossed."

Tottenham's victory over Manchester City on Saturday has Mourinho's team now equal Premier League leaders with defending champions Liverpool. Spurs sit top thanks to a superior goal difference.
