Kléberson reveals how close Man United came to signing Ronaldinho

Former Manchester United midfielder Kléberson has revealed just how close Ronaldinho came to signing for the Old Trafford outfit.

Back in 2003 the Brazil international made the move from Atlético Paranaense to the Premier League giants, and would go on to have an underwhelming spell in the north-west

But as the 38-year-old has now conceded, he only did so because the gap-toothed playmaker told him he was signing too.

“Ronaldinho told me he was going to Manchester,” Kléberson told ESPN.

“He kept saying to me, ‘Come to Manchester!’ I wanted to go, but I was reluctant because I didn’t speak English and United didn’t have any Portuguese speakers.

“Ronaldinho persuaded me and I went to Manchester. But he didn’t.”

Ronaldinho was on the verge of joining Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, but at the last minute opted instead to sign for Barcelona.

The rest, as they say, is history.
