Ajax have reached an agreement with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar over the extension of his expiring contract, the club announced on Thursday morning. The technical manager, who reports to the director of football Sven Mislintat, has signed a four-year extension valid until June 2027.

Huntelaar previously spent eight seasons as an Ajax player, before taking the technical role in March last year. The 39-year-old will mainly focus on the development of youth players from Jong Ajax to the first team.

Speaking about the deal, Huntelaar said ‘In this role, I stand largely on my own two feet. But I will also work together a lot, for example with scouting and of course with Sven. The overall picture is important for my development. We had good discussions about that internally before we took the decision to extend.’

Ajax’s director of football Sven Mislintat has expressed his delight over the deal. ‘We are happy that Klaas Jan has extended his contract. With his role as technical manager in a general sense and especially at Jong Ajax, he can develop further and be of value to Ajax. I look forward to a long and good cooperation with him.’
