Kingsley Coman’s Al-Hilal move at risk of breaking down

L’Équipe reported on Wednesday that Kingsley Coman (28) had agreed to join Al-Hilal, however, the publication now understands that the move risks breaking down.

Coman moved to Germany as a teenager, however, he had looked on the verge of a departure from Bavaria. It was reported by L’Équipe earlier this summer that the France international was not opposed to leaving Bayern Munich, who missed out on the Bundesliga title last season.

He was one of many high earners at Bayern Munich that was invited to leave this summer, and according to a report from L’Équipe earlier this week, Coman has made the choice to accept the invitation to leave after nine years at the Bundesliga side.

Whilst Premier League sides were interested – and perhaps still are – in Coman, it was Al-Hilal who made the concrete steps. Having had an offer accepted, Coman then also gave the green light to the move. But the transfer is now in peril.

Al-Hilal need to sell in order to buy Coman

L’Équipe notes that the Saudi club already has nine overseas players, whilst the rules stipulate that they can only have eight. Neymar’s long-term injury has meant that this hasn’t been an issue, but should Coman arrive, it would be. In order to buy the France international from Bayern Munich, Al-Hilal must therefore sell one of their foreign players (Yassine Bounou, Kalidou Koulibaly, Renan Lodi, João Cancelo, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Neymar, Malcom and Aleksandr Mitrovic).

Former Olympique de Marseille defender Renan Lodi looks the most likely candidate for a departure amid interest from Fenerbahçe and Besiktas, however, Coman’s move is now at threat, with the Saudi Arabian transfer window set to close on Monday.
