While Bayern were unsuccessful in their search for a new midfielder in the summer of 2023, the Munich club would like to make another attempt in the upcoming transfer window. According to the latest reports, the German record champions could bag their first major transfer before the 2024 European Championships.
FC Bayern have (once again) been linked with the signing of Frenkie de Jong in recent weeks. The Dutchman has been on Munich’s wish list for some time.
However,as Mundo Deportivo reports, de Jong is not the number one transfer target in the summer to strengthen Bayern’s midfield. Max Eberl and Co. are said to have chosen England centre-back Adam Wharton as their preferred solution.
Reports have recently been doing the rounds in England that Bayern are very interested in the 20-year-old midfield all-rounder. Munich were already interested in the U21 international in the winter, but Wharton opted for a move to Crystal Palace in January.
Wharton moved to the Eagles from second division side Blackburn Rovers for just under €25 million and has developed into an absolute top performer and regular in London under Oliver Glasner in the second half of the season. Wharton has made 15 appearances (3 assists) for Palace.

The top English talent has signed a contract with the EPL club until 2029 and has no release clause. According to reports, however, Palace would be willing to discuss a transfer fee of £60 million or around €70 million. His current market value is estimated at 20 million euros. However, this could soon change. According to reports, Wharton could be nominated for England’s European Championship squad.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Bayern would prefer to finalise the deal before the European Championships. However, it remains to be seen whether they will actually spend so much money on an up-and-coming young player. In addition to Bayern, Wharton is also being traded to Chelsea FC.
