Bayern Munich and Germany star Joshua Kimmich plans on getting vaccinated, he revealed in an interview with German television.
He found himself the centre of controversy last month when it was reported that he had not opted to take up the vaccination.
Following that, Kimmich then tested positive for COVID-19 and has been suffering severely with the effects, so much so that he will not return to action before the end of the year.
The versatile midfielder discussed the situation in an interview with ZDF and also touched on his vaccination plans and the heavy criticism he received.
“I will be considered recovered in a few days. That status lasts for a certain time but when it is recommended, I will get vaccinated,” Kimmich stated.
“The virus wasn’t nice, of course. I had been in quarantine for two weeks before that. I was hoping to have mild symptoms and no consequential damage.
“It was a difficult time but I was lucky my symptoms were relatively mild. I lost taste and smell and then a medical check showed I had fluid in my lungs.
“I can’t do any intensive training right now because there is a risk of long term consequences if I do. So I must rest for another 10 days.
“On the criticism, some of it went beyond the limits because it just wasn’t factual criticism. At the end of the day, I’m just a person who has fears and concerns like others.”
The 26-year-old also revealed that he had a vaccination appointment during his second spell in quarantine but could not take it up after contracting the virus.
