Kike Marin has suggested Arsenal are far more likely to bring in Luis Enrique as a replacement for Unai Emery than Jose Mourinho.

According to Spanish journalist Kike Marin, Raul Sanllehi wanted Luis Enrique to join Arsenal in the meeting they had in Barcelona after Arsène Wenger’s departure from the club. Marin suggests this lends the rumours that Enrique could replace Unai Emery some credence.

On the other hand, Marin denies that Arsenal have any interest in hiring former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, and hints that Enrique’s interest in taking over in North London isn’t certain.

Enrique was most recently in charge of the Spanish national team, but he ended up quitting after 11 months amid his daughter’s battle with cancer. Nine-year-old Xana ended up passing away in August, and Enrique is understandably taking some time away from football.

Given the sensitive nature of the potential appointment, it seems unlikely it will be a change Arsenal really push to make in the coming weeks.

If they do decide Enrique is the best man for the job, perhaps they could hire someone else as an interim coach (Freddie Ljungberg, anyone?) until the Spaniard is ready. For now, of course, Unai Emery remains in charge.
