Kieran Trippier could be swapping Newcastle for Everton before the summer transfer window closes.
That is the story being reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein on Thursday, who says Trippier wants to leave the Magpies, and the Toffees are one of the clubs keen to sign him.
Trippier was Newcastle’s first signing when the club’s Saudi owners took charge in January 2022, but after relinquishing the captain’s armband to Bruno Guimarães this summer and being an unused substitute in last week’s season opener against Southampton, it seems the England full-back is surplus to requirements at St James’ Park.
The 33-year-old turns 34 next month and still has two years remaining on his contract, but he reportedly wants to explore new opportunities and play more first-team football, which could lead to a reunion with his former Burnley boss Sean Dyche at Goodison Park.
Trippier was a target for Bayern Munich in January and has also been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, and it will be interesting to see whether the former Atlético de Madrid man remains in the Premier League or moves abroad before the transfer window closes on 30 August.
