Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier told his colleagues to chin up following their 2-0 loss to Arsenal in their Premier League clash today.

Trippier said they must forget this game and keep pushing for points in their remaining games.

The Magpies lost but will consider themselves unlucky. They held their own against the Gunners in every area of the pitch.

Newcastle hit the post twice, further extending their record. No team has hit the woodwork more times in the Premier League than Newcastle this season.

Also, they had a penalty call overturned. Trippier thinks the difference today was that Arsenal were more clinical.

After the game, Trippier said (via NUFC TV): “There were a lot of chances in the first half, we hit the post, but the game was about fine margins today, and Arsenal took their chances.

“The first goal is always crucial. We started on the front foot. At the start of the game, we went after Arsenal, we had chance after chance, but Arsenal were more clinical than us today.

“But yeah, we have to keep going. We have to forget this result. We have to recover and focus. That is all we can do now.”

The right-back refused to cry over the overturned Newcastle penalty. He said they had their chances after that, and it wasn’t their day.

Manager Eddie Howe will take his boys back to the drawing board after the loss, but he likely won’t be too harsh on them.

The Magpies got into decent positions but failed to find their clinical touch. Today’s loss ends their run of three straight wins after their defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.

However, Newcastle remain third thanks to Manchester United’s loss to West Ham United.

Newcastle remain two points ahead of the Mancs with four games left. Although, they will be wary of the in-form Liverpool, who have won six in a row.

Next, Newcastle will face Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday. They will be hoping for three points against the relegation-battlers.
