It has now been claimed that Kieran Trippier could still be set to leave Newcastle United in the coming days.

The ‘exclusive’ comes from Turkish media.

The claim is that Kieran Trippier could sign for Eyupspor.

Sports Digitale saying that with the transfer window not closing until 13 September 2024, Eyupspor think they can sign the Newcastle United star.

The Turkish media outlet even claiming that Eyupspor have already met Kieran Trippier to discuss a deal.

Nothing will ever totally surprise me in football BUT if this one actually happened, I would be amazed.

I can’t see Eddie Howe agreeing to anybody leaving his squad now the Premier League window has closed, certainly nobody he is thinking could be of use this season.

It is expected Odysseas Vlachodimos will leave on loan, most likely to Belgium, with Anderlecht claimed to be set to sign him. Along with Turkey, the likes of Belgium and Saudi Arabia still have their transfer windows opened. Isaac Hayden another who is expected to join a club overseas still, having signed on loan for Standard Liege last summer.

As for Eyupspor attracting Kieran Trippier AND having the ability to pay the necessary transfer fee and wages. Well, it just sounds ludicrous.

Eyupspor are minnows in Turkish football, never mind football generally.

They got promoted to the top tier for this 2024/25 season but in these past 15 years they have paid out less than £5m in total in transfer fees (via Transfermarkt). So with Newcastle United turning down three bids from Bayern Munich in January for Kieran Trippier, the third and highest being £12.8m, not sure how anybody is expected to believe Eyupspor could afford his fee, never mind the wages!

This summer, Eyupspor haven’t spent anything on transfer fees after promotion, instead relying on loan signings and six free transfers.

I can only guess this story has been dreamt up on the back of Eyupsor signing Jonjo Shelvey in recent days, their latest free transfer.

However, Jonjo Shelvey had his Forest contact terminated by mutual agreement only eight months after signing for a reported £5m from Newcastle United in January 2023. He then joined another Turkish club, Rizespor, on a short-term deal and played for them last season.

Now a free agent again and without a club, Shelvey ending up signing this past week for Eyupspor, Though fair to say he will have had to massively lower his wage expectations from his Newcastle and Forest days! Certainly nowhere remotely close to what it would cost Eyupspor to even match Trippier’s current wages at Newcastle United.

In the real world anyway, the idea that Eddie Howe would now allow a big player like Kieran Trippier leave now, is quite astonishing. As there would be no option to bring anybody else into Newcastle United now, not until January anyway.
