Atlético Madrid will be without Kieran Trippier until March after the player’s FA suspension was upheld by Fifa.
The FA banned Trippier for a breach rules on betting back in December.
An independent panel found that the right-back had encouraged friends to bet on his move from Tottenham to Atlético 18 months ago.
Trippier played for Atlético on 12 January and the club had hoped his ban would be overturned but have lost their appeal.
“As a consequence, the decision of the FIFA disciplinary committee passed on 23 December 2020 is confirmed, extending sanctions imposed on the player by the English FA to have worldwide effect,” FIFA said in a statement on Monday.
