Arsenal fullback Kieran Tierney says the players know Champions League football is the standard for the club.

The Gunners' last taste of Europe's premier cup competition was that 5-1 mauling by Bayern Munich in March 2017.

And Tierney would love to secure the fourth-place finish that would get them there again next season to put his club back where they belong.

He said: “As an Arsenal player, you know the standards of the club and you know what the expectations are.

“But you also know where we've been in the last years as well.

“Fourth place is a good position — it is good progress and it's something we can build on.

“But it's something you take game by game. If you go on runs, you don't know what can happen, good or bad.

“Of course, Arsenal belong in the Champions League and, obviously, in the last few years we haven't done that, so to do that would great progress for the club."

The Premier League is now entering its business end.

And Tierney added: “There are games you need to be winning to keep the distance in the table with the teams under you.

“We know it's going to be tough but these are the months to do it.

“This is the part of the season where you want to set your eyes on a target and know what you need to do to get there. You need to be winning games."
