Kieran Maguire: ‘Legal advisors’ summoned as game-changing reveal set to impact Liverpool | OneFootball

A new Premier League constitution is “in the hands of legal advisors” and will affect how Liverpool operate at boardroom level in the future.

That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after the Premier League announced the plans last Monday.

Powerbrokers from every top-flight club must sign up to the charter “committing them to the core principles” of the competition.

The constitution is set to be introduced following the ‘big six’ clubs’ attempt to establish the European Super League in April.

Maguire explained how the new charter could wrestle back some power from the breakaway teams, including Liverpool.

“The Premier League have agreed there will be a broadly new constitution,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“That will presently be in the hands of legal advisors, and then the clubs will formally vote on it.

“In terms of the main issues, it will mostly be in terms of resigning from the league. Choosing not to play in the Champions League will be an issue, also.

“I imagine acting in good faith for the league as a whole will be one of the core principles.

“One of the things that irritated the other 14 with the ESL was that that the greedy six were so obviously operating for their own interests.

“They thought they had the nuclear button in the form of the Super League. Now, that option doesn’t look viable anymore.”

FSG frontman John Henry was forced to apologise following the botched European Super League attempt.

It later surfaced that he had rejected a £3billion bid for the club from an unnamed Middle Eastern source.
