Kieran Maguire issues warning after Joel Glazer development at Man United | OneFootball

Joel Glazer will personally take the hit after Man United were fined by Uefa for their role in the European Super League.

That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after the nine ESL dropouts learned of their punishment last Friday.

Uefa issued a combined fine of £13.4million and docked each team 5 per cent of European competition revenues for one season.

The penalties will be paid into the governing body’s grassroots football fund.

The same day, Glazer issued a statement committing himself to a “new era of dialogue” with disenfranchised United fans.

Maguire highlighted that Glazer agreed to pay the fine out of his own pocket, as did Arsenal’s Stan Kroenke.

“It’s a token amount,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“But having said that, all additional money going into grassroots football should be welcomed.

“What we have seen is that some club owners have said that they will pay the fine personally. Kroenke has done it and Joel Glazer has done it as well.

“The money will be paid to Uefa and distributed to grassroots football that way.

“However, we should be careful about how we define grassroots. The Premier League says they give so much money to grassroots football but they include the Championship in that.”

United’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool on Thursday evening was the scene of further demonstrations from fans.

The match was originally scheduled for 2 May but was moved after protestors raided Old Trafford.
