As reported by Leipziger Volkszeitung, Khéphren Thuram (Nice) and Nicolas Seiwald (RB Salzburg) are current topics at RB Leipzig as they search the market for a replacement to Konrad Laimer.
Laimer has just 5 months remaining on his current deal and is expected to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer. Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Koné was identified as a primary candidate but is likely to be unaffordable – a transfer fee for Koné is likely to surpass the €45m that Gladbach received from Arsenal for Granit Xhaka in 2016.
And so RB Leipzig appear to be pursuing other targets. Both Thuram and Seiwald are 21, and fit the profile of an RB Leipzig midfielder – strong, athletic and of good technical ability.
Seiwald has a contract with RB Salzburg until 2026 whilst Thuram’s contract with Nice runs for another 2.5 years. Another potential option for Leipzig is Tom Krauß, who is currently on loan at Schalke, but will return should the Royal Blues be relegated.
As of writing, RB Leipzig are currently one point behind leaders Bayern Munich.
