Real Madrid Women this evening face a historic challenge as our team debut in the Women’s Champions League group stage against Kharkiv at the Metalist Stadium (6:45pm CET). This will be the first of the madridistas' three opponents, with matches against PSG and Breidablik to come in this round as the Whites bid to make it through to the quarter-finals.
"We want to get a good result in the first Champions League game", insisted David Aznar, who has has named this squad for the encounter, in his pre-match press conference. The team booked its place amongst Europe's leading 16 sides after a 2-1 aggregate win over Manchester City in the qualifying round. Meanwhile, Kharkiv, who are the defending Ukrainian champions, reached this stage after victories over NSA (5-1), Pomurje (4-1) and Apollon (a 5-2 aggregate success) in the previous rounds. Olga Ovdiychuk, with five goals to her name, is the team's leading goalscorer in the competition.
