Paris Saint-Germain came just short in the 2021 Trophee des Champions Final as Lille OSC finished with a narrow 1-0 win.

Mauro Icardi was among the few regular first-team starters that featured in this match. Overall, the veteran Argentine forward did not have his best showing in the final.

For one, Icardi notched a mere six passed completed and one shot recorded over the course of the match. He simply could not get going and found a difficult time exerting a presence while in the opponent’s penalty box.

Icardi simply failed to mirror his standout showing in the 2020 Trophee des Champions Final, where he scored a key goal against rivals Olympique de Marseille.

PSG now looks ahead to its upcoming 2021-2022 Ligue 1 opener, which will come against newly-promoted side Troyes AC. The French powerhouse sure would like to see Icardi score a key goal in the match to get off to a promising start in league play.
