Lisandro Martinez is reportedly set to return for Manchester United’s Premier League game with Brentford next week.

The 26-year-old underwent surgery to repair a broken metatarsal in his foot for the second time last October, which kept him sidelined for over three months.

He returned to action in mid-January but suffered a knee injury in United’s 3-0 win over West Ham United last month.

The talented defender missed all the subsequent matches for the Red Devils but was surprisingly named in the Argentina squad for their friendlies with El Salvador and Costa Rica.

But Manchester United later clarified that he would not be involved in the two March friendlies and will only train with his international teammates.

Sky Sports are now reporting that Martinez is close to regaining full fitness and the club are hopeful he can return to action against Brentford.

The Argentine arrived at United in 2022 from Ajax and hit the ground running at Old Trafford.

His debut campaign saw him making 45 appearances in all competitions, with the 26-year-old playing a pivotal role in helping the Red Devils to a third-place league finish and League Cup success.

Martinez averaged an impressive 2.0 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.6 clearances per game in the English top-flight last term. He also completed 2.5 long balls with 87 percent pass accuracy.

However, he has endured a difficult 2023-24 season due to injury issues, which have limited him to ten appearances.

The Argentina international is now in the final stages of his rehabilitation process and will be in action soon.
