Barcelona face a huge challenge to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Having failed to win against Benfica in their penultimate group game, the Catalans will need to grab all three points when they take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena next week.

A failure to bag a victory would then mean Barca will have to rely on Dynamo Kyiv, who are winless in the competition so far, beating Benfica in the other group game.

Visiting the Allianz Arena to face a Bayern Munich side who have all their group games so far is a daunting task for any team. And, Barcelona’s task has been made a lot harder due to the absence of one of their key players in Ansu Fati.

The 18-year-old sensation, who has had an injury-riddled start to the season, has been one of Barca’s brightest performers with four goals and an assist from eight games. However, he has been sidelined from early November due to a hamstring injury he picked up against Celta Vigo.

While his involvement against Bayern Munich was always going to be touch and go, reports earlier in the week indicated that Fati was ready to make himself available for selection, even if he would not be 100% fit.

However, RAC1 is now reporting that Barcelona will not have the Spanish international back in time for the huge game against the German champions. It is claimed that he will not be ready for the trip to Munich and the club are unwilling to risk further injuries by rushing him back into action.

This does come as a big blow to Barcelona and their hopes of winning the do-or-die contest against the Bavarian giants. Without Fati, the onus will be on the likes of Memphis Depay, and the fit-again Ousmane Dembele to step up and deliver the goods at the Allianz Arena.
