Coventry City have offered Callum O'Hare a deal that lasts until the summer of 2027, according to Tom Collomosse.
The Sky Blues have richly benefited from some excellent recruitment in recent years, with key players including Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer allowing them to get to the play-off final at the end of last season.
Unfortunately for Coventry, both players left last summer, but they generated a very healthy amount for the pair and that allowed owner Doug King to fully back Mark Robins during the previous transfer window.
Some of those summer signings including Haji Wright and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto have become real assets at the Coventry Building Society Arena - and O'Hare certainly felt like a new signing following his return from a long-term injury.
After spending such a long period of time out of action, it would have been understandable if the former Aston Villa man had taken some time to get back into a rhythm.
Initially being eased back into action from the bench, he then went on to start some games and scored a brace against Birmingham City in December.
Also registering a brace against league leaders Leicester City last weekend, he is grabbing the headlines and has registered six goals and one assist in just 15 competitive appearances this term.
This is a remarkable record and he may have been another departing player during the summer if he hadn't sustained a serious injury last term.
O'Hare was offered a contract last month - but is yet to put pen to paper on a deal as he potentially weighs up his future.
The contract he has been offered runs until 2027, which means he would be extending his contract by three years with his current deal running out this summer.
It's unclear whether this deal includes a release clause - but it would certainly give Coventry the power to generate more for him than they will be able to during this window.
Coventry are in a good position at the moment, with the Sky Blues in the mix for promotion despite their poor start to the season.
They may have lost Gyokeres and Hamer - but they still look strong with the likes of O'Hare and Wright proving to be influential.
The CBS Arena is a good place to be with some great supporters and an excellent manager.
O'Hare will continue to thrive with the Sky Blues if he stays injury-free - and this is why he should consider extending his contract.
If he can agree a new long-term deal with a sensible release clause, those are terms that could work out for all parties.
