Continuing the series of renewals, FC Barcelona announced on Thursday that veteran defender Inigo Martinez has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2026.
Having arrived at the Catalan outfit in 2023, the 33-year-old endured a stop-start debut campaign under Xavi Hernandez due to fitness problems.
However, this season, Martinez has established himself as Hansi Flick’s main man in defence, forging a brilliant partnership with Pau Cubarsi.
Given his impressive performances, Barcelona had no hesitation in securing his future at the club for another season.
Speaking to the club media earlier today, Martinez expressed his delight at having signed a new contract with Barcelona.
“My family and I are very happy to stay for another year at this great club, I have believed in Barcelona from day one and we are looking forward to winning more trophies,” said the veteran defender.

The 33-year-old has won the Spanish Super Cup with the Blaugrana this season – the first major trophy of his career – and remains motivated to add more to his cabinet.
“We’re in a good position, and if we maintain this level, there are great chances of winning more trophies,” Martinez exclaimed.
Expressing his satisfaction at successfully renewing his contract after some struggles, the Spaniard noted:
“I knew that getting here and playing straight away was difficult, and renewing my contract was a big challenge. But with hard work and suffering, I managed to make it happen.”
Continuing, he added: “It’s great to continue for another year with this group. I’m enjoying being here and I hope we can continue like this.”
Apart from his renewal, Martinez’s good form in recent games has also been rewarded with a recall to the Spanish national team for their upcoming matches against the Netherlands later this month.
