Kevin-Prince Boateng’s loan agreement from Serie A side Sassuolo to Barcelona was one of the most confusing moves of the January window.
Just a couple days after his loan was announced, he featured in Barcelona’s 2-0 Copa del Rey first-leg loss to Sevilla.
Now, the 31-year-old has opened up on his Tottenham career, where he failed to earn a place in the squad and made just 24 appearances from 2007 to 2009.
“Now I weigh 83 kilos,” Boateng told La Vanguardia.
“That was down to parties. At Tottenham, I didn’t play and I was always with the fans in the stands.
“In London, I was 20 years old. You go partying, you’re with friends, and you eat badly.
“Now I have my cook and I am aware that eating well and being healthy lengthens the career.
“When you’re young, you think that every month the money is going to be there.
“If you don’t play, you don’t care, because you have money and ‘friends’ tell you that you are a phenomenon.”
It will be interesting to see whether or not Boateng impresses enough for Barcelona to activate their team’s €8m option to buy at the end of the season.
