Millwall edged closer to securing the signing of Hibernian forward Kevin Nisbet yesterday afternoon.

That is according to the Daily Record, who last night reported that the Lions are set to make Nisbet their record signing, agreeing a fee worth up to £2.5 million with Hibs for his signature.

That comes after an initial £1 million offer was rejected by the Scottish club.

The £2.5 million fee is reported to include performance based add-ons.

As per the Daily Record’s report, personal terms are yet to be agreed, although the 25-year-old is now set to undergo a medical.

With the above said and the transfer seemingly set to go through, below, here at FLW, we’ve weighed up three key aspects of the move.

Is it a good potential move?

I think this has to be viewed as a good move for the player.

With the greatest of respects to the Scottish Premiership, the Championship is likely to be a step up for Nisbet, both in terms of quality and financially in his pay packet.

Having played in League One, the Championship and Premiership in Scotland, at 25, this arguably is a good time for the player to try his luck in England and see how he does.

With Millwall currently 8th in the second tier and in the hunt for the play-offs, too, Nisbet may even have promotion chasing and Premier League ambitions.

Quiz: What club do these 15 ex-Millwall academy players play for now?

Would he start?

With Millwall set to splash a record transfer fee on the forward, it’s very likely that going forwards Gary Rowett very much views the 25-year-old as a starter.

However, with the club having deployed one lone striker of late, it may be that it takes a few weeks for Nisbet to earn his spot.

With three goals in his last three, current Lions forward Tom Bradshaw is in decent form of late, but if this runs out, Nisbet will no doubt be given his opportunity to impress.

If Nisbet can translate his goals from the Scotland into the Championship, Rowett certainly won’t be able to ignore him for long, whatever happens.

What does he offer?

Furthermore, he could start alongside Bradshaw, with Nisbet offering Rowett the chance to play a front two once again this season.

Millwall deployed two up front for the early part of the season with a three at the back, which surely means there is a possibility we could see Bradshaw and Nisbet line up alongside each other at some point this season.

Mainly, though, Nisbet offers and is being brought in to bring goals to this Millwall side.

Having only just came back from a cruciate ligament rupture in December, Nisbet has been in fine form for Hibs, netting seven goals in six Scottish Premiership outings.

In that kind of form, Gary Rowett will be hoping that his new addition can really hit the ground running.
