Manchester City ace Kevin De Bruyne had been targeting a return to action this Saturday when City host Bournemouth.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, City sources have indicated that De Bruyne has been virtually ruled out for Saturday and will likely miss Tuesday’s mid-week clash at Watford.
The 27-year-old is now facing a fight to be fit for next Saturday’s all-important match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Last season, De Bruyne scored a sensational goal against at the defending-champion Blues to give the Cityzens a 1-0 victory – a result which many City supporters believe was the turning point in their record-breaking season.
The Belgian had targeted a return to training this week, however, with De Bruyne suffering his third knee injury in three seasons, City are reluctant to rush him back into the fold.
However, City manager Pep Guardiola is expecting some good news from the medical team this week.
Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus and İlkay Gündoğan, who all missed the trip to Lyon, should be fit to face the Cherries.
