Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is likely to re-emerge as a target for the ambitious Saudi Pro League during the 2025 summer transfer window, it has been reported.

The 33-year-old midfielder is rapidly approaching the final few months of his current Manchester City contract, and with no negotiations over a new deal having yet been reported by the wider media, concerns are growing over his future.

De Bruyne was widely discussed to be at the centre of transfer plans in Saudi Arabia over the summer market, whilst there is also understood to be keen interest in bringing one of Europe’s very best into Major League Soccer during the tail-end of his career.

The belief in various quarters is that due to personal reasons, a move to the United States would appeal more to De Bruyne and his young family. However, the Belgian has been outspoken about the huge financial benefits of a move to the Middle-East.

And while a move to Saudi did not come to fruition during the last summer market, it appears as though the possibility of a move to a league that has already lured the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez, and Karim Benzema is not off the table entirely.

According to the information of MailSport’s Sami Mokbel, Manchester City’s vice-captain and long-standing midfield playmaker is likely to emerge as a transfer target for the Saudi Pro League next summer.

It is detailed that De Bruyne had ‘actively sought’ a potential move to the Middle East during the 2024 edition of the summer market, but ultimately ended up staying at the Etihad Stadium into another season.

However, with the Belgian superstar remaining out of contract with the Premier League champions at the end of the ongoing season, the report insists that he is now set to re-emerge as target for a number of Saudi Arabian clubs.

Whilst all parties continue to sound out the future of Kevin De Bruyne, including whether or not Manchester City will propose a new agreement to the veteran playmaker, the Premier League champions will likely be drawing up a contingency list of possible replacements.

It is widely believed that officials from within the Etihad Stadium hold several attacking midfielders within the German game in high regard, including Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not the changeover in sporting director at the Etihad Stadium next year could impact transfer plans, either positively or negatively. Sporting’s Hugo Viana is currently widely-tipped to be the replacement for Txiki Begiristain.
