Manchester City and Belgium international star Kevin De Bruyne was subjected to a break-in at his home in Belgium over the weekend, local media are reporting.

The 32-year-old remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from hamstring surgery towards the end of last summer, but is expected to make a full return to Manchester City action shortly after the turn of the year.

De Bruyne has been reunited with the Manchester City playing squad this week, after he travelled with the rest of the team to Saudi Arabia for the FIFA Club World Cup, despite being unavailable to play any part in the tournament due to his ongoing rehabilitation process.

However, despite being understandably buoyed by rejoining matchday duties with Pep Guardiola’s side, De Bruyne and his family have received devastating news from one of their properties in their home nation of Belgium last weekend.

According to the information of HLN, as translated and relayed by MailSport in England, the home of Kevin De Bruyne in Belgium was ‘trashed’ by burglars during a break-in on Saturday. Thankfully, De Bruyne himself, his wife, and their three children were not at the property.

The Belgian news outlet state that while items had been taken from the home of the Manchester City midfielder, no further details were available, after burglars used a stepladder to reach the first floor of the property in Bolderberg, Heusden-Zolder.

It is further highlighted that Kevin De Bruyne and his family only use their property in Belgium ‘sporadically’ when they visit their home country, spending most of their time in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

De Bruyne recently spoke on his return to full fitness and preparations towards Manchester City action in 2024 whilst at a charity event at the Etihad Stadium, revealing that his road to recovery is ‘going really well.’

He explained, “It’s going really well. I had surgery – it was a big injury. But we’re getting closer – closer to the new year (his original return date). I am doing really well and hoping to be back on the pitch soon.

“I am certain I will be fine once I am back on the pitch. I hope to just keep on playing good football and that is good enough.”

At present, there is no set return date for Kevin De Bruyne, although Manchester City will certainly have their eyes set on the three fixtures awaiting the club across the Premier League and Emirates FA Cup in January.
