Manchester City’s iconic playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has offered a personal insight into his private life away from the Etihad Stadium during his recovery from surgery.

The Belgium international playmaker suffered a hamstring problem during Manchester City’s opening Premier League contest of the ongoing season, forcing himself into surgery to prevent further issues with the problem region across the duration of the season.

Such an operation sparked a long-term recovery process, with De Bruyne first featuring for Pep Guardiola’s side post-surgery during a 5-0 Emirates FA Cup victory over Huddersfield Town in the third round of the competition.

While maintaining a positive outlook may have been difficult for De Bruyne during his rehabilitation period, it did enable the 32-year-old to undergo a personal reset and take advantage of valuable time with his family and friends during the in-season period.

Speaking with ManCity.com this week, Kevin De Bruyne provided a personal account of his private life whilst recovering from hamstring surgery undertaken last summer, following a reoccurrence of an earlier problem.

“I guess just live a bit more of a normal life. And relax a bit as a person,” De Bruyne responded when asked what life is like away from the relentless of City Football Academy activities and first-team duties with Manchester City.

“During the rehabilitation, I actually had a very normal life. I trained during the day, but in the evening I could spend time with the children. What normal people actually do every day. I think my body has calmed down a bit.

“And well, then I went to watch the F1 in Abu Dhabi one day. We went on holiday in October, which is normally not possible. That was also nice.”

He continued by revealing a tour of scenes closer to home, “Go away for a weekend. Or visit a number of places in England. I never got the time for that and we had the opportunity now. So I think that was cool.

“I was being able to experience different moments with the children too. Or go out with friends. For example, we went to Suffolk for a weekend. In the east of England, close to the sea. There we did a scavenger hunt, a search for hidden treasures.

“And yes, it was fun to do something like that.”

Kevin De Bruyne is currently away with his Manchester City teammates at a warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi, as Pep Guardiola looks to revitalise his squad mid-season ready for a traditionally hectic second-half of a campaign.

City return to action on Friday night when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the FA Cup, at a stadium where they are yet to score a single goal following the ground’s construction and completion.
