Manchester City have found themselves in a ‘chaotic’ situation amid their ongoing winless run across competition, says Kevin De Bruyne.
Pep Guardiola and his players find themselves on a run of six matches across competitions without a win, having lost five matches in a row before throwing away a three-goal lead against Feyenoord this week to draw 3-3 at the Etihad Stadium.
It is less than ideal preparation for Manchester City, as the Premier League champions now head to Anfield on Sunday afternoon for a crunch meeting with Liverpool at the top of the division hoping to stay within touching distance of Arne Slot’s squad.
Speaking earlier this week, De Bruyne dismissed an earlier notion from Bernardo Silva claiming that the dressing room is a ‘dark’ place at the moment, instead using the phrase ‘chaotic’ to describe the situation.
“I wouldn’t say dark, I would say it’s been a bit chaotic before I would say. I’ve seen so many people pass around the medical area, sports science, who’s playing, who’s not playing. There’s been people who shouldn’t be playing but they did anyway even with an injury,” he said.
De Bruyne continued, “So I would say these games with Sporting, Brighton and Bournemouth was a bit all over the place. I would say before the Tottenham game, it seemed pretty much alright to me, obviously then we had the defeat.
“So we just had yesterday which it was a bit quiet. But then for the rest I didn’t see too much change. Of course, everybody is a bit down about the five losses, but you have to take it and you have to move on.”
Should Manchester City suffer a fourth consecutive defeat in the Premier League this weekend, they would find themselves 11 points adrift of Liverpool at the top of division, and possibly outside of the top-four.
City will be hoping that Kevin De Bruyne is fit enough to start the contest, while Ruben Dias could take on his first minutes under Pep Guardiola since returning from injury earlier in the week.
Pep Guardiola will offer a full update on the fitness of his squad and answer the latest round of questions from reporters when he faces the media on Friday afternoon from the City Football Academy.
