Kevin De Bruyne has admitted there has been no progress in talks over a new contract with Manchester City.

De Bruyne is approaching the final six months of his contract and previously saw talks over an extension put on hold after he suffered a hamstring injury - the same issue which plagued his 2023/24 campaign.

Having now returned to the team, 33-year-old De Bruyne was recently asked whether he had any updates on his contract to offer fans.

"No, nothing yet," the player revealed.

It means De Bruyne will be free to discuss a contract with clubs overseas as early as 1 January, with a number of teams believed to be keen on the Belgium international.

The Saudi Pro League have long seen De Bruyne as a potential dream target, while Major League Soccer expansion side San Diego FC have also expressed an interest in snapping the City midfielder up for their first season.

Manager Pep Guardiola, who signed his own extension in November, recently confessed he would like to see a 23-year-old De Bruyne signing a new ten-year contract, but acknowledged that the veteran midfielder's time at the Etihad will have to come to an end eventually.

"There are players [for who] the impact on the legacy of this club will be eternal, will be forever," he said. "Of course it is not easy [to replace them], but as a club, we have to find in the moment, if it's going to happen, we have to find the best way."
