Kevin De Bruyne has claimed that Manchester City are battling Tottenham in the race for the Premier League title this season.
The bold statement comes as the top of the table has condensed in recent weeks, with few points separating the contenders. Liverpool lead the way with 51 points, suffering just two defeats so far this campaign.
Man City are close behind with 49 points and a game in hand over their rivals, following their involvement in the Club World Cup. Arsenal are in third on the same tally, having earned a huge win over Liverpool to muscle their way into the conversation.
While the top three are seen as the main contenders, there could be some surprises from the two teams below them. Aston Villa are in fourth, but sit just three points behind the Gunners and City, with Tottenham only one point behind them.
It means seven points separate top and fifth, with plenty of twists and turns left in the months of the season that remain.

Following his return from injury, Kevin De Bruyne discussed the picture of the Premier League title race and how it could swing in the near future. Speaking to the Standard, after his side’s win over Brentford, the Man City star said: “There are so many teams there [in the title race].
“Liverpool and Arsenal are there with us, but I’d say even [Aston] Villa and Tottenham are close. We will be fighting with five for the moment. There’s a little pressure anyway to do well, but there’s no point looking at what’s going to happen in two months.
“We need to win games now and try to enjoy it. We know what we need to do. The pressure is always there, but we’re ready to fight again until the end.”

So, do Tottenham have a chance to win the Premier League? It’s a slim chance, given the strength of the teams in front of them and their own consistency throughout the season.
The main focus for Ange Postecoglou will likely be qualifying for the Champions League by finishing in the top four. With just one point separating themselves and Aston Villa in fourth, that appears to be more achievable.
If they can go one step further and challenge for the title, then it may prepare the side for the future if Postecoglou’s project continues to gain traction.
